HIV / HCV
HIV & INFECTIOUS DISEASE EDUCATION

The HIV and Infectious Diseases project within the We Help Ourselves Therapeutic Community has been funded by the AIDS and Infectious Diseases Branch (NSW) since 1990. The project has aimed to ensure all service consumers have access to mainstream health and welfare services, information and education about ways to reduce the harm that may be associated with alcohol and other drug use.

The project offers 'in-house' groups on relapse prevention, drug overdose, HIV/AIDS, HCV and other infectious diseases as well as a registered needle exchange service. The application of harm reduction principles within this service provides counselling and support should a drug free outcome not be chosen.

The project has an Outreach service which offers through-care for the residents of the We Help Ourselves therapeutic community. The service facilitates an ex-residents group, aftercare houses for men, women & children, as well as offering support to past, present and future clients. The project workers also attend to any enquiries from the general community for assistance in matters relating to alcohol & other drug misuse.
