WHOS RTOD, a service provided by We Help Ourselves is funded by Department of Health and Ageing, was established in 2009 and uses the modified Therapeutic Community (TC) model of treatment to assist you in your stabilisation needs while learning the skills necessary to achieve your goals.
 

What We Provide

WHOS RTOD provides:

  • Dispensing of your Methadone or Buprenorphine – no cost
  • Medical, mental health & access to psychiatric support to aid stabilisation
  • Safe and secure environment – staffed 24hrs / 7days
  • Voluntary Therapeutic Program (Modified TC)
  • Integrated Harm Minimisation strategies
  • Aftercare support and outreach services
  • Female and male accommodation
  • Access to legal, welfare, housing, employment and family support services

Activities

WHOS RTOD activities include:

  • Group work and individual counselling
  • Living, social & communication skills development
  • Stress management program
  • Leisure activities
  • Self esteem building
  • HIV/HCV and other infectious disease education and support
  • Access to external activities such as TAFE, SMART Recovery and other self help meetings, counselling etc.


What we expect from you

  • An acknowledgement that there is a need to change and that your current drug use or chaotic lifestyle is no longer working for you
  • If you have any court or legal business it needs to be deferred for the first six weeks of the program
  • Minimum age is 18 years
  • You will be expected to abide by the program rules whilst in residence
  • If you have any special medical requirements, check with staff to see if we are able to accommodate these
  • Children visits can be arranged with RTOD staff
  • Permission from your prescriber to return to their care upon discharge
  • Detoxification from Benzodiazepine and Alcohol prior to admission


What it costs

You will be required to contribute a percentage of your welfare benefit or equivalent amount to your living costs while you are a resident in WHOS RTOD.

Dosing

No minimum or maximum dose restrictions.

In most cases your doctor will continue to be the authorised prescriber of your methadone or buprenorphine dose in the community.

Whilst in WHOS RTOD a locum arrangement with your Prescriber will be organised by staff for the WHOS prescriber to review your treatment for the duration your stay.
 

 

What If I leave WHOS RTOD?

In the event that you choose not to complete the RTOD program you will recommence your opioid treatment at your dispensing point.
